Sitemap tells about all the pages on a website that search
engines may not discover directly. Submitting a sitemap to search engines help
your pages on the website to be indexed. Search engines crawl the web by
following links from one page to another if your web page is not well linked
them it is less likely that the search bot will
crawl it automatically. But submitting a sitemap insures that your web pages
are crawled and indexed. In this article I will tell you how to submit a
sitemap for blogger in Google webmaster tools. You just need to follow these
easy steps.
1-Login to your Google Webmaster Tools through your blogger
account.
2-Check if your blog is already listed and verified. If it is
listed than click on it and move to step 5.
3- If it is not listed than you first need to verify your blog.
Click on the ADD A SITE button. A
dialog box will appear, copy your blog url there and click continue.
4- Now you will be asked to choose an option. There are two
methods for verifying a website.
- File Upload Method: This method is comparatively simpler. You just need to choose Upload an HTML File. And then click verify Google will upload and download the file for you. Ignore the instructions.
- Meta-Tag Verification Method: Google will provide you with a Meta Tag which will look like
<meta content='IE=EmulateIE7' http-equiv='X-UA-Compatible'/>
Copy this code, login in to your blogger account. Go to Template->Edit HTML and copy this
code somewhere between <head></head>.
Go to webmaster tools and hit verify button. You have just verified your website!
5- Now
click on your website in the Google Webmaster Tools. Click on the sitemap tab
Click on ADD/ TEST Sitemap. A
dialog box like this will appear
Now copy this code in the box
atom.xml?redirect=false&max-results=400
If
you have more than 400 posts than copy this code
atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=401&max-results=400
Once
you have added the sitemap. You will see the number of pages for which you have
submitted your sitemap. Return after 2, 3 days and your pages will be indexed.
